If you are in the market for a new car you are probably excited about choosing what you are going to purchase or lease, and you are undoubtedly looking forward to driving your new car off the lot.

There is just something about that new car smell that gets you every single time. Aside from the obvious things that you should be considering such as overall budget, reliability, safety, and mileage capacity while you are out on the open road, there are some other things that should be playing a role in the car buying process.

A car purchase can be a great financial investment and most of us want to keep our cars running and looking great for years after we make our purchase.

Our cars become extensions of our personalities, we identify a part of ourselves with the car and some of us become emotionally attached to our cars- and rightly so!

Style & Personality

Take a moment to consider your own personal style. You can even consider where you are at right now, and where you aspire to be within the next 3-5 years.

If you aren’t quite sure of what you own personal car buying style really is, start with Swansway’s Car Quiz. You may just be surprised at your results!

If you are all about a super luxurious lifestyle, and you can afford the price tag that comes along with it you should be looking at mid-high level luxury cars. Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, and Jaguar are just a few of the car makers that you may identify the most with.

If you consider yourself a bit more bohemian, and free spirited in nature you may want to look at cars that are eco-friendly, that are or hybrid and that have a bit of spunk to them that matches your personal beliefs, and personality profile.

If you consider yourself a thrill seeker or an adventurer, you may want to consider an SUV that has off-road capabilities that you can take on your weekend trips out to the mountains. The cars that you select not only match your personality but they can give you the function that you need that is on par with your lifestyle.

Be Realistic

Now that you have considered what car which really match with your style and individual personality you should also consider your current role in your family.

Are you single and living in a metropolitan area where you need to have a compact car  or mini that is economical?  You may want to be barreling through the streets in large Hum-V but that may not be the best choice for your living situation.

Are you married with young children living in the suburbs? A shiny red two-seater sport car is not exactly realistic if this describes your current life status.

Be realistic when you are shopping for your car. Try to find a car that reflects your own sense of style but that also is realistic for your current situation.
